bettrends Bulletin - September '22
As the flat season approaches it's conclusion for the 2022 season, we have had a busy month here at bettrends covering the likes of Irish Champions Weekend, the bumper St Leger afternoon, Haydock's Sprint Cup card and more.
The highlight of the month undoubtedly came at Leopardstown's premier flat meeting as the team put up a quickfire double for members in the shape of Luxembourg (advised 9/2) and the weekend NAP Jadoomi (advised 5/2). Aidan O'Brien's star three-year-old got the expected tow into the race from stablemates Broome and Stone Age which set up the race perfectly for him to get the better of the French contingent in behind and land Ireland's premier Group 1 contest. The son of Camelot cemented himself at the top of the division after a fragmented season with this top performance on the big stage.
Simon & Ed Crisford have been going through a fantastic period of late, a yard in real red-hot form, and Jadoomi (pictured above, nearside) travelling over to Ireland to win a Group 2 by four lengths was just the icing on the cake for the stable. Following a tough victory in the Celebration Mile Stakes at Goodwood just two weeks prior, Jadoomi would be flying the flag for the UK in the Boomerang Mile at Leopardstown as the sole British raider in the field. With top international jockey Christophe Soumillon booked to ride for the first time, he won in utterly dominant fashion to give the bettrends team a fantastic 40 minutes with consecutive winners at the track.
The owner of Jadoomi, Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum, also gave the team a winner to get the month of September off to a flyer at Ascot in the shape of La Yakel. A tough Heritage Handicap field on the first weekend in September with no fewer than five runners from racing superpower, Godolphin, looking to get their hands on the prize. The bettrends team advised William Haggas' La Yakel at 11/2 and he duly obliged under apprentice Adam Farragher who gave the horse a fantastic ride through the pack to lead close home and make a mark of just 87 look generous. A good first weekend to a month that was bookended by good results for the team, with two winners on the final weekend coming from Chester and Newmarket. Tyrone's Poppy (advised 3/1) kept on gamely in a close finish in a strong nursery handicap at Chester for the Tim Easterby yard whilst Vermillion (advised 3/1) battled extremely well to win a Fillies' Maiden at HQ.
Coming up in October, the last month of our Flat Service before Jumps season kicks in, we have two more weekends for our bettrends team to search for winners and end the year on a high note. First up we have Future Champions Day at Newmarket which has four Group races to get stuck into, including the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes in which the top two-year-old stars will take each other on across the Rowley Mile. We also have the last of our Handicap Breakers to look forward to with the Cesarewitch Handicap at the same meeting, a huge field of 34 runners will go to post over the extended trip of 2m2f and it looks set to be a cracker. The flat service will then reach it's end at QIPCO Champions Day at Ascot in which the team will be providing analysis and selections for each and every race for the season's extravagant finale. A fruitful meeting for the team last year, finding success with Shadwell as Eshaada and Aldaary brought the 2021 flat season to a close in fine style for bettrends members.
As the winter inches closer, so does the return of the obstacles and our VIP Jumps Service will kick off on the 29th October with top racing from Ayr, Wetherby and Ascot to look forward to. On this day last year, our team started off the season with bang with two winners, at 7/1 and 7/2, so will be hoping for a repeat of that form this time around.
